The first Star Wars Celebration was held on April 30, May 1, and 2, 1999, at the Wings Over The Rockies Air and Space Museum in Denver, Colorado, a short 3 weeks before the nationwide release of Episode I. The three day 'outside' event was plagued by seemingly unrelenting rain showers, but to over 20,000 in attendence, this long awaited event was a dream come true.

After the wet and dismal weather conditions, that welcomed the attendees of the 1999 Denver Star Wars Celebration I, fans were eagerly greeted in the summer of 2002 with news that the Star Wars Celebration II would not only be held in Indianapolis, IN., but would also be held 'indoors' at the Indiana Convention Center.

The Celebration II was held on May 3, 4, and 5, 2002, less than two weeks before the international release of Episode II. The Indiana Convention Center was a welcomed relief that boasted over 340,000˛ feet of dedicated space to the Celebration II. The convention welcomed 27,000 fans to a 3-day event, which celebrated 25 years of Star Wars history.

Guest appearances by actors such as Hayden Christensen (Anakin Skywalker), Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Jeremy Bullock (Boba Fett), Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia Organa), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), David Prowse (Darth Vader), Kenny Baker (R2-D2), Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca), Phil Brown (Owen Lars) along with Warrick Davis (Wicket) to name only a few, were in attendence to sign autographs as well as participate in question and answer sessions.

The convention center housed a multitude of vendors and Star Wars merchandise including the exclusive Celebration II 'Jorg Sacul' action figure. Exhibits featuring items from the LucasFilm archives as well as a life-size Jedi Starfighter were all on display. Many guests of the convention were treated on the evening of May 4, 2002, to the music and voices of the Indianapolis Philharmonic Orchestra featuring the Circle City Chorus. The Star Wars 25th Anniversary Concert (Sagamore Ballroom) was an intoxicating mixture of musical pieces from the entire Star Wars saga. For many, this was the highlight of the entire Celebration II and with good reason.

The Celebration II had more to offer than the typical attendee could do in only three short days, but it made the anticipation for the Star Wars Celebration III even that more intense.
